Hello! I’m Luron (pronounced LaRon). Though my mom claimed to know someone with my name, I’ve yet to meet another Luron. I wear many hats: blogger, wife, mom, and my favorite title, Grandma. My mission here is to guide you in nurturing your family with easy, wholesome meals, making tinctures, painting and room improvements, gardening, starting plants, and preserving food through drying, freezing, and canning.
My journey began in town with a few animals. In high school, my parents bought a pet shop where I worked with various animals, from fish and mammals to lizards and parrots. I also worked at a local veterinary hospital. I earned a BS in Animal Science in college, met my husband on a blind date, and moved back to my hometown. Though I initially earned more money waitressing than using my degree, I went back to school to become a science teacher.
For 15 years, I taught high school science before transitioning to writing grants to support homeless students in Colorado for a decade. This work was both fulfilling and heartbreaking. When a change in leadership caused turmoil, and my husband retired, we relocated 700 miles to our little piece of heaven in Oklahoma for more land for our cattle.
Throughout raising our three children, we managed a homestead with greenhouses, a garden, and a variety of animals, including chickens, pigs, cattle, dogs, geese, horses, a donkey, sheep, goats, and even llamas. Indoors, we cared for an array of pets. I grew and preserved much of our food and learned countless skills along the way.
Now fully retired in Oklahoma, we’re transforming our land from scratch. Starting with just a metal barn, we’ve added two 16×40-foot wooden buildings and are continually improving our soil for gardening, harvesting nature’s bounty, raising cattle, and hunting. This blog covers a range of topics, and I’m here to help with any specific questions or information you need. I look forward to connecting with you!
